April Assembly

On Friday last, we had our first assembly since February 2020. COVID restrictions meant that we couldn't bring our classes together and we really missed our monthly gatherings.

It was wonderful to come together once more and celebrate all the wonderful activities and achievements of our students. The students heard all about exciting upcoming events like the school tours, basketball coaching and the First Holy Communion. Mrs O'Dea spoke about the Green Schools Committee and Mr Gleeson filled everyone in about the recent sporting endeavors of the older students. Mrs Egan introduced our new SNA, Mrs. Norah O'Meara, to everyone and reminded the children that from Tuesday, May 3rd school shorts are permitted.

We were delighted to have Fr Quirke present to receive a cheque for €700 raised by our school community to help those suffering in Ukraine

Our Mathematicians and Writers of the month were honoured for their great work.

The big news was that Rang 3 agus 4 won 'Class of the Month' for April. With all classes tied on two 'months' each it's all to play for in May and June.

We Support Ukraine!

The students and staff of Our Lady's N.S. were saddened to hear of the plight of the Ukrainian people. We decided that we wanted to do something to help. On Friday, April 8th we held a Ukranian Colours Day to show our support and collectively completed a 120km walk. Parents came and added a few km to the total as well. Together we raised €687.80 which will be added to the other monies raised by the parish to help provide support for those who have lost everything due to the war.

Thanks to all who contributed and participated.

Easter Egg Hunt

The Easter Bunny made a welcome return to Our Lady's NS just before the Easter holidays. He left lots of yummy eggs for our delighted younger students to find!

How to Choose the Correct Hurley Size

Subsidised hurleys, helmets and footballs will be available to order through the school for the next two weeks. Order forms will be sent home with the children.

The helmets are good value at €45. which is about half the recommended retail price.

For those wishing to order hurleys but who are unsure of sizes here is how to choose the correct size.

1. The child stands naturally and relaxed with their hands down by their sides.
2. The the top of the hurley should come up to the child's wrist.
3. The child should be able to hold the hurley at the top and the hurley should be just touching the ground.
4. If the child is between sizes it is better to have the hurley too small than too big.
5. If the child can use the hurley like a sword then it is the correct weight.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween from all the students and staff at Our Lady's N.S.

Confirmation and Communion 2021

October is not the usual month for celebrating First Communions and Confirmations but then 2021 has not been a usual year.

Congratulations to last year's Fifth and Sixth Class who received the sacrament of Confirmation in the Church of the Assumption on Sunday, October 3rd. Due to restrictions on numbers in the church, Our Lady's NS had a ceremony all to ourselves which made for a lovely intimate occasion. Thankfully  Archbishop Kieran O'Reilly was there to confirm the children made the occasion all the more special.

On the following Sunday our Third Class students took centre stage as they made their First Communion. Fr Quirke celebrated the Mass and our thanks go to him for all that he does for the children of our parish.
