Football

Our under 13 boys football team had their blitz on Monday 7th October in our local GAA pitch.  In our first game, Moyne NS provided the opposition.  This was a hard fought game with great defending, passing and team work on display throughout.  We saw some great goals from Harry, Alan and Aoibhinn, with Cody adding some lovely points to our tally.  We also had a crucial save from Edward at a time when the score was tight. We ran out eventual winners on a scoreline of 4-2 to 0-4.

Drangan NS were our opposition in our second game.  With Moyne having beaten Drangan  we knew that a win here would put us through to the next round.  Throughout the game, we worked hard and this paid off with some well worked goals from Harry and Amy.  Cody, Tommy B and Amy added some great points to give us the victory.   The final score was     Our Lady’s NS 4-7      Drangan NS 1-0.

The team showed some fantastic skill and teamwork throughout the blitz.

We now play Clonmore NS in the semi final.

Team: Cody Hanlon (Captain), Harry Carroll, Eamonn Quigley, Alan Kelly, Edward Shelly, Tommy Butler, Tommy Kennedy, Jakub Tallon, Patrick Dormus, Amy Burns, Aoibhinn Rice, Kellyann Donovan.

Football

On Wednesday 2nd October our under 13 girls travelled to Monroe for their Cumann na mBunscoil 7 a side blitz.

Our first game was against Ballyneale NS who took an early lead in the first half.  The girls battled hard in the second half and made a great comeback with scores from Amy Burns, Aoibhinn Rice and Maria Croke, running out as eventual winners on a scoreline of 3-7 to 1-2.

The second game was against Lisronagh NS.  Our girls were out of the blocks very quickly in this game, giving us some early scores from Amy, Aoibhinn and Maria.  They continued in this form throughout the game, adding more great scores.  The game finished on a scoreline of 5-8 to 2-1 in favour of our girls.

Having won section one of the blitz, we then faced Cloneen NS in the blitz final.  In this game we started well with Amy putting away a few early goals and went in at half time leading by 1-1.  At the beginning of the second half, Cloneen hit us with a few quick goals which we just could not pull back.  Our girls never gave up and Aoibhinn, Amy and Kellyann added some more well worked scores.  The game finished Cloneen NS 8-4 Our Lady’s NS 5-2.

Throughout the entire blitz, our girls really did themselves proud, showing some great skill both in defence and in attack aswell as a fantastic workrate and team spirit!

Team: Grace Croke, Iris Corcoran, Aoibhinn Rice (Captain), Amy Burns, Chloe Fennelly, Kellyann Donovan, Ciara Boylan, Rachel Tye, Maria Croke, Scarlett Lyons, Emma Rose McGrath, Holly Dormus.

Thanks to the girls who called to the school on Friday September 20th with the U16 Ladies Football County Championship trophy. It’s always lovely to have past pupils visit. We wish you every success going forward girls!

3rd and 4th class really enjoyed trying out some of our new P.E. equipment. They had great fun playing badminton and volleyball. The wind proved a little tricky for the shuttlecock on the day, but lots of fun had by all regardless!

On a very wet Wednesday (September 25th), our 3rd-6th classes headed to Thurles Crokes Complex for the Cross Country Championships. The rain made it challenging to get a group photo but it didn’t dampen our spirits and the children gave it everything in their races. Well done to all the children involved and in particular to our medal winner on the day!

Camogie County Final 2024

All roads led to Thurles today. Backed by a big crowd of schoolmates and family members, our u13 Camogie team took to the hallowed turf of Semple Stadium to take on Templederry in the Roinn E County Final.

Our girls made a good start and got the first couple of scores but Templederry proved to be no pushovers and dominated the play for large parts of the first half. In fact if it wasn't for the heroics of our goalkeeper Róisín we could easily have found ourselves behind at halftime. Thankfully some good scores by Lily, Amy, Hannah and Sarah kept us ahead at the break 3-6 to 2-2.

In the second half Lily and Amy took control in midfield while the skill and clever movement of Aoibhinn and Órla Mc upfront gave the Templederry backs no end of trouble. Our own backline of Hannah and Niamh defended stoutly in front of the rock solid Róisín, ensuring that Templederry couldn't find a way back into the game.

A flurry of scores early in the second half put the Ballingarry girls into an unassailable lead but Templederry never gave up and kept their scoreboard ticking over.

Orla B, Sophie, Taylor, Kellyann, Grace and Chloe all came on in the second half and played their part in what was a historic day for Our Lady's NS.

The final score was 10-13 to 7-3 in favour of Ballingarry.

Captain, Órla McAree accepted the Roinn E Shield on behalf of her teammates and gave a lovely speech. Róisín Norton was deservedly named 'Player of the Match'.

Panel:

Róisín Norton, Niamh Quigley, Hannah Shelly, Lily Ivors, Amy Burns, Sarah Tye, Órla McAree, Orla Boylan, Sophie Hayes, Taylor Rose Rice, Aoibhinn Rice, Kellyann Donovan, Grace Croke, Chloe Fennelly.

Absent Panelists:

Amber Hearne, Iris Corcoran.

Scorers:

Amy Burns 5-3, Lily Ivors 4-5, Aoibhinn Rice 1-1, Hannah Shelly 0-3, Sarah Tye 0-1

Fundamental Movement Training and Spikeball

Our students have been enjoying some extra PE in recent times. Not only has Paddy Ivors been putting our young hurlers through their paces as usual but we have had the benefit of some extra coaching during April and May.

Barry Burke delivered six Fundamental Movement Training sessions to each class. The sessions were great fun and were really enjoyed by our students. A big thank you to Barry and to Ballingarry GAA Club for organising the sessions.

It's always nice to have former students come back to see us so were were delighted to welcome TY students Anna, Colm, Elizabeth, Gavin, Grace, James, Tadgh and Thomas back to their old stomping ground. The Presentation Secondary School students were coaching Spikeball to our Fifth and Sixth Class.
